After announcing that the all-new Ford GT supercar will be featured on the cover of their Forza Motorsport franchise, Xbox is now bringing us a behind the scenes look at how the 2016 GT came to be.
The Ford GT was unveiled at this years’ North American International Auto Show, and if it was a popularity contest, we could safely say the GT was the winner.
Now, thanks to Xbox, we’re getting an insiders look at what this car means not just for the people at Ford but the world as well. As Ford Assistant Chief Engineer Kip Ewing put it “you really have to honor the history of the car, so it’s not a place to mess around with history and get too creative” – basically saying that they didn’t feel the need to revolutionize the design of an already iconic car.
While also commenting on the design, Forza Motorsport Creative Director Dan Greenawalt stated that the car “Has the Ford GT heritage, you can see it instantly in the front, but as you travel along the sightlines of the car, it’s really from another planet.” This is very true as the car is instantly recognizable as a Ford GT from the front, but looking at the rest of the car, especially towards the back, it’s very modern, very sporty and a lot less bulky.
As you may already know, the 2016 Ford GT features Ford’s most powerful EcoBoost engine ever with the twin-turbocharged 3.5 liter V6 delivering more than 600 HP. The previous generation had a 5.4 liter V8, producing 550 HP, which helped it reach 62 mph in just under 4 seconds and hit a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph).
We’re guessing the 2016 model will be even faster and a lot more economical.
