Destined as a gift to Rita Hayworth, this Cadillac Ghia comes from the golden age of coachbuilding.

Back then, you could order just a chassis from a manufacturer and take it to one of the numerous coachbuilders across the globe to build you your own, exclusive car, tailored to your needs. Ghia made only two Cadillacs based on the ’53 chassis and this one belongs to the Petersen Automotive Museum.

Leslie Kendall, Chief Curator of the Museum explains to Petrolicious some of the background story of this beautiful Cadillac. He shares that the car was purchased first by Aly Khan in an attempt to get her back after their break-up. The reunion never happened but Rita kept the car anyway.

The original colour of the car is unknown and the earliest photo of it shows the Cadillac Ghia painted white. The Petersen museum decided to respray the car in a more suitable brown shade, in order to show off its beautiful bodywork better as part of its full restoration years ago.
