Bentley is expected to unveil a two-seater sports GT concept next month in Geneva, with the study previewing a Ferrari and Aston Martin rival that could go on sale in 2018.
The car is likely to be powered by a specially tuned version of Audi’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing around 500hp. According to Autocar, the future model is likely to be positioned alongside the Continental GT, not below it, as a performance-oriented model.
The new coupe was first mentioned as a production possibility by Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer in a press conference last year. If given the green light, the new coupe would extend Bentley’s lineup to five distinct models and boost annual volume beyond 12,000 units. However, it won’t sell as well as the Bentayga SUV, which is forecast to sell 3,000 units a year.
With a front mid-engined engineering layout, the new Bentley coupe could be based on VW’s MSB flexible architecture, designed for cars of all formats positioned above the Audi range. The model is expected to start around £120,000-£140,000 ($185,000-$215,000). Obviously, bespoke features would add considerable sums to the starting price.
