While one could easily dismiss these shots as simply showing a regular 981 Boxster with a low-slung canvas top, we have reason to believe that this might very well be the new Boxster Spyder.
For starters, said Boxster was following a lightly camouflaged prototype of the upcoming Cayman facelift, but most importantly, it had what appears to be (from the low res-photo) a pair of flying buttresses on the modified engine bonnet, just like the previous Boxster Spyder.
According to the posters over at Planet-9 forums, these pictures were taken in Cape Town, South Africa.
If Porsche is indeed working on a 981-gen Spyder, it should follow the same formula as its predecessor being the lightest model in the range, something it will achieve not only through the elimination of the soft-top’s operating mechanism, but also via the removal of a number of equipment features like the A/C, and the use of aluminum panels.
H/T to Planet-9 for the pics!
