Following the design sketch released earlier this month, Mercedes-AMG has dropped the first official photo of its new AMG GT3 race car, which will debut at the Geneva Motor Show early next month.
The AMG GT3 replaces the SLS AMG GT3, once again confirming that the AMG GT is indeed a replacement for the SLS AMG, despite Mercedes claiming otherwise. Judging from this photo, the AMG GT3 looks way more aggressive that the car it replaces, thanks to the widebody kit and its “glued to the ground” look.
For the moment we only get to see the front end of the car, which features an advanced aerodynamic treatment, judging from the splitter, winglets and air outlets carved in the fenders above the wheels. Oh, and the rear wing is so big it can be seen even from this angle.
Sadly, there are no technical details available yet, but the AMG GT3 should feature a race-tuned version of the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 from the production model, mated to a competition transmission. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 will have its racing debut next year in the 2016 FIA GT3 Championship.
