A Taiwanese couple is on the receiving end of the internet’s wrath for posting a video of their one-month old baby strapped on the steering wheel of their vehicle.
It’s not clear if the vehicle was moving, but the baby’s father, identified as Peter Griffin Yong Liao, 39, was spinning around the wheel, possibly pretending to be driving, all while the mother, Xia Lung, 34, was giggling and filming the scene.
After receiving a wave of criticism on the online video channel’s page, the mother commented: “I don’t know what everyone is complaining about, we weren’t on the main road at the time, we were only in a service station,” she wrote, according to The Independent.
Her response only infuriated readers more forcing the woman to eventually take down the video, but not before it had been shared on countless other sites.
Taiwan’s social workers learned about the incident, but said that they couldn’t do anything about it.
“Looking at the video, it does not seem as if there is intentional abuse of the child, although I think it’s fair to say that the parents are a bad example for others and that the activity is certainly dangerous,” said Wang Wei-Jun, director of the Taiwanese Committee for the Improvement of Children’s Rights.
