Seat has released a performance kit for the Leon SC Cupra 280 in the UK which mirrors the specification of the car that set the first sub-8 minute Nürburgring lap record for FWD production cars last year.

Suggestively called “Ultimate Sub8 Performance Pack,” the kit includes 30mm larger brakes with Brembo calipers, semi-slick Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres (a £460 option), body colored side skirts, multi-spoke alloys in black or orange, plus a series of weight reduction measures.

Priced at £4,200, the pack gives the Leon SC Cupra a more focused nature, but unlike the record-setting car, it does have rear seats and a radio – albeit with four less speakers. Weight-reduction measures also include swapping climate control for a simpler heating system, as well as ditching the center console armrest, rear air vents and storage boxes under the front seat.

Customers can choose between six-speed manual or DSG transmissions, while other standard features include cruise control, rear parking sensors, touchscreen satellite navigation and tyre pressure monitor. Also standard are the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system and Cupra Drive Profile, which provides the choice of Normal, Sport, Cupra and Individual settings to adjust the suspension, throttle sensitivity, gearbox and engine note.

Priced at £31,410 with the manual transmission, the Leon SC Cupra 280 with the Ultimate Sub8 Performance Pack is £5,020 cheaper than its closest direct rival, the two-seater Mégane Renaultsport 275 Trophy-R, priced from £36,430. When the latter model’s Performance Brake pack, electric door mirrors and satellite navigation extras are also specified, the price difference grows closer to £7,000.
