Having recently captured the regular 2016 Kia Cee’d testing, it was only a matter of time before our spies nabbed the sporty GT version out in the open.
The refresh for the Cee’d GT that will come a little over two years after its European launch in the summer of 2013 (even less for the UK where it arrived in early 2014), will encompass the same suit of cosmetic updates as the standard 5d hatch, including changes to the grille and lights, and then some more to its bespoke aero kit with the modified bumpers and side skirts.
Its 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that produces 204PS (201 HP) and 265Nm (195 lb-ft) and is connected to a six-speed manual gearbox driving the front wheels should remain intact.
Some of our readers had pondered about the use of Hyundai-Kia’s new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which will replace the six-speed automatic on the regular 2016 Cee’d. The fact that it’s not offered on the recently facelifted Hyundai i30 Turbo (it’s available only on the 110PS 1.6L diesel and 136PS 1.6L petrol), doesn’t sound promising, but we do not know for sure yet.
The updated Kia Cee’d range, including the three-door Pro_Cee’d, is expected later this year.
