So, apparently there was a mistake in the Audi press release for the R8 e-tron full-electric supercar. The part where they say the R8 EV’s tech will be used in a future saloon – it’s actually not a saloon, but an SUV-type vehicle, as AutoExpress learnt on the sidelines Geneva motor show.
The vehicle will have a range of 500 km or 313 miles, sapping power out of a big 90 kWh battery pack.
According to Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi’s engineering boss, “It’s a more passenger orientated car, so for more than two passengers. But it will be a car which can be used by families that have some money, it is premium. It will have a big battery capacity and a range of more than 500km (313 miles).”
We don’t know when they’ll show the fruits of this project, but Hackenberg did say they “will make a presentation soon.”
In regards to the naming, it will probably feature e-tron and some other model moniker, probably based around the letter Q.
Hackenberg also tries to explain the decision to go for an SUV: “If I see from the engineering side, a Q is probably not the best solution for an electric car with a large range because it has large surfaces and high aerodynamic resistance. But if you ask the sales people, everything has to be Q!”
