There are few engines as prolific in North America as the Chevy small-block V8, which has now been in service for exactly sixty years. To mark the occasion, Hagerty Classic Cars put together a timelapse video of a tired old unit being stripped bare, refurbished, improved and put back together.
You get to see the whole process dismantling the engine, then seeing it get cleaned up, having its cylinders bored out and heads ported. It’s all nicely finished in a bright coat of orange, with the sexy carb being the crowning piece.
This timelapse video is unique because it’s not fixed; the camera looks like it’s on a slider, so the angle changes as the work is carried out.
The video may even serve as a guide for those who are looking to do the same with an old small-block they have lying around; you can watch, pause and then watch again until you see how it all comes apart.
