What we have here is believed to be a prototype for Fiat Professional’s upcoming mid-size pickup truck that will be positioned above the existing Strada going up against the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and VW Amarok.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) officially confirmed plans for the launch of a Fiat-branded pickup truck in the mid-size segment in 2016 during last year’s investor meeting when it shared its five-year (2014-2018) product offensive.

Our spies told us that up, close and personal, the prototypes were much bigger than the Strada truck and despite the heavy camouflage, had “real bodies” and were not chopped up test mules.

Fiat had previewed a four-door pickup truck crossover-combo during last year’s Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil with the futuristic FCC4 Concept, though, we don’t see any relation between the two from these pictures.

We haven’t heard about any plans to offer the as-of-yet unnamed Fiat truck in the States and Canada as a Ram, and it wasn’t mentioned in the group’s 2014-2018 Product Plan, but you never know with FCA…

Another question that arises is whether Fiat’s truck is based on the new Mitsubishi L200, as the two carmakers recently signed a “non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning the possibility to develop and manufacture a mid-size pick-up truck, supplied by Mitsubishi and based on the next generation of L200” or if the Italians are developing it on their own.
