Dirt roads built on unstable soil, with no consolidation underneath and no large trees nearby are very vulnerable in heavy rain situations. Entire roads can be swept away and vanish, or, like in this video from Brazil, they can turn into Swiss cheese…
Thankfully, all the passengers managed to get off this particular bus before it was swallowed up. If you notice at the start of the video the sinkhole is hardly visible, but moments later the entire vehicle vanishes only to reemerge as a piece of floating debris.
The video was shot in the tropical province of Para during what look like rather violent flash floods – that entire road probably crumbled too, judging by the severity of the deluge.
