If there’s one thing Italian automakers probably know how to do better than anyone else, it’s designing cars. Take the Fiat 500; can you believe it is turning eight this year? Yet it looks as fresh as the day it was born.
And what a nice job Fiat’s designers did with the new special edition Vintage ’57 that pays tribute to the original 500, playfully dubbed ‘Cinquino’, produced from 1957 to 1975.
If we had to nitpick, we’d mention that Fiat presented something very similar with the 500 Edition 1957 in 2013 for Europe and in 2014 for North America, but there are some differences between the two models, including the styling of the rims, exterior trims and interior colors.
The new Vintage ’57 was presented at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month and for now, it’s only available in Europe offering a choice of 12 body colors, unique 16-inch alloy wheels, a white roof and spoiler, and tobacco or Brown Terra di Siena interior leather seats and door panels combined with white trimmings.
European customers can also pick from several engines, including the 1.2 liter 69PS, 0.9-liter Twin Air 65PS, 0.9-liter Twin Air 85PS and 0.9 Twin Air 105PS petrol engines, or alternatively, the 1.3-liter Multijet 95PS diesel.
