There’s no end to Jaguar’s expansion plans with the F-Type. After the addition of manual gearbox and all-wheel drive options, the Brits are now stepping it up a notch with the development of a wilder performance model.
It’s doing so with the assistance of Jaguar-Land Rover’s (JLR) newly born Special Operations performance unit that has already given us the Range Rover Sport SVR. At this time, it’s not known if Jaguar will use the same “SVR” moniker for its cars.
What is clear is that the Jaguar F-Type Roadster prototype that we spied is a more extreme version of the existing “R” car, which draws its power from a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 producing 542hp (550PS)and 502 lb-ft of peak torque.
The SVR, or whatever else Jaguar calls it, should nudge output closer to 600-horses aided by a tweaked chassis, recalibrated steering, faster 8-speed gearbox, bigger wheels and tires, massive carbon ceramic brakes and additional aerodynamic components, including a deep front lip splitter, fixed rear wing and different rear diffuser.
Naturally, all these improvements will come at a cost over the regular F-Type R. The high(er) performance model should land in showrooms next year.
