As Lotus witnesses its sales rising up and throws the Evora 400 into the market, CEO Jean-Marc Gales had the opportunity to share some of his plans for the future of the company.
Lotus boss wants Lotus to focus back to its core values, which means no unnecessary electronic gadgets for the British firm’s models. Lotus has to adapt though to the modern times and can’t risk falling behind again commercially which is why we saw its new Evora 400 featuring more gimmicks than usual.
Customers of the sports-car market simply need a certain level of electronic amenities these days, especially in the US market where Lotus wants to make a strong comeback. The new Evora 400 and its future roadster counterpart will play a major role in this and Jean-Marc Gales is keen that he can drive Lotus successfully to a new era.
This means though that most likely the next all-new model we’ll see from them will be a four-door crossover. “We’d do an SUV that is very light, very fast on the track and has outstanding handling. I’m a bit torn between an SUV and a four-door sports car — but in the end I can see that the SUV has the bigger market”, he said in an interview with Reuters.
With brands like Aston Martin and Bentley set to join the SUV trend, Lotus knows that the romantic times are over but it doesn’t give up. Jean-Marc Gales promises that a future Lotus crossover “will reinvent the category” rather than simply joining it.
