The McLaren 675LT made its global debut today at the Geneva Motor Show next to the original and stunning F1 Long Tail with the Brits revealing everything about it.
McLaren says that the new Longtail, the lightest, most powerful and fastest model in the Super Series, will be strictly limited to 500 units worldwide. The more aggressive setup of the car gives a “a unique track-focused feel”, featuring wider tracks, both front and rear by 20mm. The lightweight springs used are 27 per cent stiffer at the front and 63 per cent stiffer at the rear, allowing the revised bodywork and active aero agenda of the car to produce 40 per cent more downforce than a regular 650S. The suspension features even a new geometry thanks to lightweight uprights and wishbones that are based on the experience gained from the McLaren P1.
The dry weight of the car is now 1.230kg which means that more than 100kg were saved compared to the 650S. McLaren even replaced the front windscreen with a thinner one, the rear bulkhead glass and the engine cover with a polycarbonate one saving a total of 4.5kg.
The seven-speed SSG double-clutch gearbox has been recalibrated to “produce more eager performance”, with the gearshifts to be up to twice as fast as offered in the 650S. Responsible for that increase is a new “Ignition Cut” technology, adopted from Formula 1, which cut momentarily the fuel spark on gearshifts, improving dramatically the time of the gear change, which now is accompanied by an aural explosion, both on upshifts and downshifts. A specially developed and all-new Electronic Stability Control (ESC) also debuts in the 675LT, which gives the driver an even greater level of control over the throttle and brake inputs.
There is also the option for McLaren’s Club Sport Pack which includes a titanium roll hoop with four-point harnesses and a fire extinguisher, priced at £5,090 for the UK market. The McLaren 675LT is now available for order with a base price of £259,500. Deliveries are expected to start in July this year.
