Featuring light styling changes, the new Peugeot 208 soldiers on in its competitive segment with a more efficient range of engines, better quality materials and the usual refresh on trim levels.

Visual changes include a new front bumper design with a wider grille and thicker chrome finish, two-tone headlamps with a new LED light signature, an updated range of alloy wheels up to 17 inches and new taillights, which now feature three LED stripes.

The important bits are hiding under the bonnet though, where Peugeot has now tweaked all the diesel engines to emit less than 95g/km of CO2. The 1.6BlueHDI diesel is offered with three outputs, 75hp-100hp-120hp, with the first two to offer a record-breaking 79g/km of CO2 emissions and a fuel consumption of just 3,0lt/100km (94.1mpg UK – 78.3mpg US). The 120hp 1.6BlueHDI still produces only 94g/km of CO2 emissions, and is coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox. The petrol range gains a three-cylinder turbocharged 110hp 1.2-litre engine, coupled with a five-speed manual.

Peugeot wants to move its products up-market and now claims that the materials used inside are of a better quality and more refined finish. New interior lighting and a 7-inch infotainment system with the latest connectivity features are further boosting the 208’s appeal.

The 208 GTi 30th Anniversary has now transformed from a special edition to a regular model of the range sitting on top of the normal GTi, and is called now the ‘GTi by PEUGEOT Sport’.
