It may not look like it on the outside, but the Lotus Evora 400 has undergone significant technical updates that make it the brand’s fastest and most powerful production model ever.
Lotus’ supercar is now able to reach a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h) and to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds). Furthermore, the Evora 400 laps Lotus’ test track in Hethel, Norfolk, six seconds faster than the previous model!
So what exactly did the engineers change on the Evora 400?
Well, over two thirds of the car is new, including its supercharged and charge-cooled mid-mounted 3.5-liter V6 engine which produces 400hp (hence the name) and 410Nm (302lb-ft) of torque. That’s 45hp and 10Nm more than the current Evora S.
The car also gets a new aluminum chassis, while the lightweight composite body has changed significantly both front and rear. As a result, the Evora 400 is 22kg (48.5lbs) lighter than its predecessor, despite the higher standard specification than before.
Lotus will start building the new Evora 400 this summer for European markets, with deliveries beginning in August. In North America, the car will arrive in autumn as a 2016 model.
