Porsche has pulled the wraps off of its latest Boxster Spyder ahead of the New York Auto Show. Let’s cut right to the chase: you are looking at the fastest and most powerful Boxster to date.

The 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder may not have a “GT” moniker, but it shares the same 3.8-liter flat six power unit that is found in the wild Porsche Cayman GT4, albeit with a 10 hp deficit. That said, the new Porsche Boxster Spyder’s 370 hp power output is enough to propel the roadster from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.5 seconds. What’s more, the top speed of the Boxster Spyder is 180 mph, merely 3 mph shy of the GT4. Finally, just like the GT4, the Boxster Spyder is offered exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Despite the near-GT4 power figures, the Boxster Spyder will not receive a significant amount of the Porsche Motorsport hardware found in the GT4, particularly the chassis and suspension engineering. That said, the new Spyder will feature a sports suspension that sits 20 mm lower than the standard Boxster. What’s more, the Boxster Spyder boasts larger brakes taken from the big brother 911 Carrera as well.

The most important spec figure for the new Boxster Spyder is its weight. However, Porsche has yet to announce the official weight figure at this time.

In order to get leaner, the new Boxster Spyder features a simply manually operated retractable cloth top. While the mechanism is certainly far more convenient than the removable roof from the previous generation, the operation still requires the driver to exit from the car to snap a couple of hinges from the outside. No doubt, this task will prove irritating on a rainy day.

Finally, the Porsche Boxster offers a whole slew of options including Porsche Communications Management (PCM), navigation,  rear-view camera, and more. In fact, even the radio and air conditioning system are available as options. For the new Porsche Boxster Spyder, weight loss is everything.

The new Porsche Boxster Spyder will be available in the U.S. starting in October. Prices will begin at $82,100 plus $995 destination.
