BMW’s Chinese business partner Brilliance Auto has entered the compact SUV segment in China with the V3, which has debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show.

Unlike some models unveiled by Chinese manufacturers, the Brilliance V3 looks decent and, most importantly, doesn’t copy any model from established Western automakers. The SUV looks fresh inside and out, especially in the two-tone color scheme showcased in Shanghai.

The SUV is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 150hp and 220Nm (162lb-ft) of torque. For the moment, the V3 is only offered with a manual transmission, but an automatic should be available later.

Standard equipment includes front airbags, ABS+EBD, cruise control, front fog lights, an infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen display and Bluetooth connectivity and 18-inch wheels.
