Mercedes-Benz announced the production launch of the GLE-Coupe in the Tuscaloosa plant.

The new crossover with the athletic looks and the lower roofline is Mercedes’ answer to no other than the BMW X6. Based on the ‘regular’ GLE, the GLE-Coupe promises improved handling and sportier feel thanks to the different settings in the suspension, electronic systems and steering.

Mercedes has made a $4.5 billion capital investment in the Tuscaloosa plant with the GLE, the GLE-Coupe, the GL and the C-Class sedan being built under its roof.

Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars said “The production launch of the GLE Coupé is an important milestone in our growth strategy. In 2015 we will renew almost our full SUV portfolio and have therefore built up our capacities in the U.S. Together with the C‑Class, we will produce more than 300,000 vehicles in Tuscaloosa this year.”

It’s no secret that Mercedes wants to be the world’s best-selling premium car manufacturer by 2020 and the new GLE-Coupe will definitely help in getting these sales numbers increase.
