The last thing that WGRZ-TV photojournalist Dave Harrington was expecting to see during an interview of a local resident about an underground electrical fire in downtown Buffalo, NY, was a manhole cover rocketing into the air.
It happened while he was talking to the man who is heard shouting “Heads up!” multiple times in the video before the manhole crash-lands near a firefighter and a utility truck, fortunately, without hurting anyone.
According to the report, the explosions were “probably caused by the rapid build-up of heat, gas and smoke leading to intense pressure in the confined space under the road. The sequence of explosions moving along the street shows the fire was probably following a conduit”.
