So, you wanted to see the Mazda2 in the States, did you? Well, your wish has been granted and don’t let those Scion badges and that fish-gaping-for-air-like grille tell you otherwise.
This is a Mazda2 sedan in heart and soul, built by Mazda for Scion at its Salamanca, Mexico, plant.
It even comes with the same Mazda SkyActive 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 106hp as the Mexican specification Mazda2 paired to either a 6-speed stick shift or 6-speed automatic driving the front wheels.
With the manual gearbox, it weighs 2,385 pounds and delivers estimated fuel economy numbers of 31mpg city and 41mpg highway, while with the automatic, it tips the proverbial scales at 2,416 pounds returning 33mpg city and 42mpg highway.
It will go on sale in the USA this fall in a single configuration priced at around $16,000 offering Scion its first ever sedan model and if you want to go deeper, it’s first real mass-market car.
