Land Rover’s baby SUV, the Discovery Sport, is from now on available with the company’s latest Ingenium diesel engines, which will replace the current diesel engine.

Available to order in Europe and South Korea from May 2015, the new 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel is available in two states of tune: 150PS (148hp) and 180PS (178hp).

On the Discovery Sport, the new unit delivers fuel economy of up to 57.7 mpg UK (4.9 l/100 km or 48 mpg US) and CO2 emissions as low as 129 g/km.

In terms of performance, the 180PS version has a top speed of 117 mph (188 km/h) and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h (62 mph) in 8.9 seconds – figures corresponding to the five-seat model with automatic transmission.

The Ingenium-powered Land Rover Discovery Sport will also have an “E-Capability” variant, with a blue “Sport” badge highlighting the most efficient variant. E-Capability will apply to five-seat models fitted with either the 150PS or 180PS Ingenium engine, with 18-inch wheels and low rolling resistance tyres.

E-Capability introduces a five seat option in the UK for the first time, with all TD4 180PS variants remaining with 5+2 seating as standard. Additionally, the final drive gearing and engine calibrations have been optimized for low CO2 emissions. Land Rover will introduce an even more efficient front-wheel drive Ingenium-equipped Discovery Sport later in 2015.

The new diesel engine family has extended service intervals, from 16,000 miles (25,750 km) to 21,000 miles (33,796 km). The new Ingenium engines are built in the UK at the company’s Engine Manufacturing Centre in the West Midlands, which has an annual capacity of 450,000 engines.
