Remember Lyons Motor Car’s outlandish 1,700hp LM2 Streamliner hypercar? It was supposed to be unveiled during press days at the New York Auto Show, but supposedly, the prototype wasn’t finished in time.

Last week, Jalopnik learned that the New York-based startup automaker failed to display the LM2 Streamliner during press days because the prototype wasn’t ready. However, a Lyons Motor Car representative said the car “will be displayed at the New York Auto Show during the consumer/public days at a later date.” Which has actually happened, as Lyons Motor Car today posted some poor quality photos on its Facebook page with the oddly-proportioned prototype at the New York Auto Show.

A Lyons Motor Car spokesman said the car still had interior and body work to complete as it wasn’t up to the founder’s standards. “There is still work to be done to have the concept car meet the standards of the founders as they would prefer to release the car to the public then,” the representative said in an email.

However, it’s hard to believe a company would miss the press days, which offer the best opportunity of making its product known to the world, and would rather display it during the show’s public days.

But as our friends from Jalopnik pointed out, maybe Lyons Motor Car avoided the press days on purpose because they didn’t want to answer questions about the LM2 Streamliner, which is supposed to be a 1,700hp hypercar capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 290 mph (467 km/h).
