Not a scoop in the traditional sense, but while hunting for prototypes on the Nürburgring, our man with the long lens caught up with ex-F1 pilot Mark Webber behind the wheel of a new Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
From what we understand, the 38-year old Australian driver ,who now races for Porsche in the FIA World Endurance Championship, was snapped driving the 991 GT3 RS while being filmed, photographed or both by a pro in the VW Passat estate.
It’s very likely that Porsche was shooting promotional material for the car that will launch in the States this July with a starting price of $175,900.
The GT3 RS could be one of the last of its kind to get a naturally aspirated flat-six engine before Porsche switches to turbocharging, something that will no doubt add plenty of value to the car for future collectors.
The 4.0-liter unit that pumps out 493hp (500PS) and 460Nm (338 lb-ft) of torque is matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (sorry, no manual) turning the rear wheels and offering a 0-60mph time of 3.1 seconds (0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds) and a 1/4 mile run in 11.2 seconds.
Did we mention that it’s also the fastest production 911 ever on the ‘Ring with an official lap time of 7 minutes and 20 seconds?
