Even though this ad ran for far longer than we thought it would, we didn’t mind listening to the gorgeous sound of that twin turbo V8 engine.
When in doubt, get somebody who’s a sports legend to talk about your car. It works because it makes a lot of sense. If you’re trying to get through to people about your car being an elite product, matching that product with an “elite” person is a great way to go about it.
Of course, when the product in question is a Mercedes-Benz car, and even more so, a monster of a Mercedes-AMG SUV, getting people to buy into what you’re saying is a walk in the park. Plus, Federer is also a brand ambassador for Mercedes, so he was probably glad to do it.
Now down to what’s even more interesting, the car itself. The all-new Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe is good for 585 HP and 760 Nm of torque, and despite the fact that it weighs over 2,300kg, it can still hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds. And even though it’s electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph), it’s still faster than Federer’s fastest ever recorded serve, which stands at 230 km/h (143 mph). Just a fun fact.
Still, listening to Federer talk about being the best and ways in which you can stay on top of your game is somewhat inspirational. It’s echoes true for both athletes as well as car companies that can’t afford to drop off in any way.
The only thing we’re not sure about is Mercedes saying that they alone raised the “bar”. It makes for good marketing but we all know there are plenty of similar products to go around, regardless of segment.
