SsangYong are trying to spice up their Rexton W range with £27,995 ELX model. However, we feel that it’s a bit overpriced.
Yes, there are a number of significant improvements over the EX model. For example you get a pretty good looking beige/gray leather interior in the ELX, along with a leather-covered steering wheel and updated instrumentation.
Then there are the 18″ Diamond cut alloys, the LED daytime running lights, front parking sensors, auto-dipping rear view mirror, heated rear seats and Sat Nav, plus a new Dandy blue metallic finish.
Under the hood there’s a 2.0 liter turbodiesel engine, delivering 155 HP and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of peak torque, which doesn’t sound all that great in a car that weighs 2,060 kg. You may not realize it, but that’s a lot of weight for this segment, even for a decent-sized SUV.
Take the all-new KIA Sorento for example. It’s somewhat similar in size to the Rexton W yet weighs almost 200 kg less. But we’ll get back to that in a minute.
Paul Williams, SsangYong Motor UK CEO was quoted as saying that the Rexton W ELX “adds a number of significant enhancements at very little extra money. This highly competent 4×4 just got even better!”
That may be so, and we do like their 5-year limitless mileage warranty, but if you live in the UK, £27,995 will just about get you a 200 HP all-new KIA Sorento.
