SsangYong unveiled a new concept vehicle at the Seoul Motor Show, the XAV small SUV which previews the design direction for future products.
The XAV stands for “eXciting Authentic SUV” and is aimed at reestablishing the brand identity of Ssangyong Motor, the company states. Based on a small SUV platform, the XAV pays homage to the Korando, with the front end being based on a retro design that reinterprets the image of the early Korando models.
The new SUV study has a boxy shape, which SsangYong says provides enough interior storage for outdoor activities.
The XAV is aimed at people who love the outdoor, and the canvas roof serves to underline that. The rear end features a storage space for emergency tools and equipment for outdoor activities, disguised as an additional fuel tank.
Inside, the SsangYong XAV Concept features a minimalist ambience with sporty bucket seats, a wide display for the infotainment system and a range of storage spaces.
The study is powered by a 1.6-liter engine and an e-4WD system, which consists of a lithium-ion battery and electric motors mounted on the front and rear wheels. The XAV also features a Smart Motion Control system, which includes Electronic Air Suspension and Stereo Vision.
“The XAV, a small, off-road concept SUV, embodies the direction of our new product development—the combination of a traditional SUV with the latest trends. We hope that this shows our firm commitment to becoming a global SUV maker as well as the unlimited potential of Ssangyong Motor,” said SsangYong Motor CEO Choi Johng-sik.
