Our spy photographers have nabbed a second Aston Martin prototype for the DB9’s successor that may get the DB11 name when it arrives in the first half of next year.
This one was clad in black and white camouflage running some hot laps around the Nürburgring track before hitting the surrounding roads.
One of the reasons why it is believed that Aston may christen it the DB11 is because the British firm already used DB10 for the specially-made hero car for James Bond’s next action flick ‘Spectre’.
While the two cars don’t share a name or underpinnings, these scoop shots suggest that the DB10 prototype and the next DB9 or DB11 will have common attire, from the sharper profile lines and heavily sloped rear window to the pronounced rear fenders and even the door mirrors and deep side air ducts.
The DB9’s replacement will not only look fresh , but it will actually be new under the sheet-metal riding on a newly-developed bonded aluminum platform and is set to debut a new bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine designed and built by Mercedes-AMG in addition to a tweaked version of Aston’s 6.0-liter V12 that powers the tester pictured here.
Under Aston Martin’s deal with Mercedes-AMG, the British company also gets access to certain components of electric and electronic architecture, so the next DB9 will likely obtain newer tech features from the German carmaker as well.
