To our knowledge, as innovative as autonomous driving can be, we haven’t seen too many people get excited about it. And this goes double for petrol-heads.
But what if we could look at it a different way? What if we could focus less on the logistics and more on the way in which the technology can affect us directly?
Bosch went out and through a little bit of CGI wizardry brought us their vision on what a highly automated car would be like and what the driving experience would be like. They just so happened to choose a Tesla Model S for this little “stunt” and we understand why. Hint: It’s the gigantic display.
In this video we get to accompany Philip, a young professional on his way to the airport. Before you think this is going to be a really boring video, do give it a chance, because the way in which Bosch designed the autonomous user interface is amazingly easy and useful.
We can see all the ways in which this would make driving easier. We love the UI, we love the way in which the car learns your driving style and your preferences, so that it can basically drive..like you would drive. That’s really clever.
There’s a lot of cool stuff in there, and after watching the whole presentation twice, the only thing that seems a bit troublesome is when the car would pull over by itself directly if the driver refuses or is unable to take control when manual mode is about to be resumed.
It seems that besides the visual warnings, there should be a few alarms going off which would definitely get the drivers attention, if his eyes were previously fixated on something he was working on or who knows what.
Still, we’re very impressed.
