Since BMW is brewing a facelift for the regular F30 3-Series sedan and F31 Touring models this summer, it’s only reasonable to expect an update for the M3 sedan as well.
And while we’ve already nabbed prototypes of the other two models testing out in the open, the high-performance version of the series had escaped us – until now, that is.
Our spies actually photographed two M3 testers, one finished in white, the other in BMW’s Austin Yellow Metallic, with both cars having only their rear ends covered in camouflage.
There’s not enough information to be sure, but this could suggest that the M3 might not carry the regular F30 sedan’s front-end revisions and keep exterior changes limited to the back and in particular, the tail lamps and possibly, the boot.
It wouldn’t be a first for the M3, as BMW treats this model as a separate series, sometimes even ditching exterior cosmetic updates altogether when an LCI (BMW talk for mid-life facelift) happens to the rest of the 3-Series cars – i.e. with the E30 M3 and the E46 M3.
However, it should get, if not all, most of the interior revisions of the F30, including an updated iDrive system. A question remains over whether the 2016 M3 will get BMW’s fancy fully-digital and -customizable instrument cluster.
The F80 M3 sedan should be introduced at the same time as the plain F30 models this summer.
