When the 2016 Chevy Camaro was unveiled two weeks ago, our readers’ reactions were mixed, as were our own. Even so, we have a feeling that a future ZL1 version might just make everybody happy.

If you love muscle cars, you probably want to hear a lot less about the 270 HP 2.0 liter engine in the entry level model, and more about whatever it is you’ll be pushing when Chevy launches the “tip of the spear” model, the all-new ZL1.

Well, good news and bad news. The bad news is that we don’t know what type of engine it’s going to have or how much horsepower, but what we do know is that the current ZL1 packs a 6.2 liter V8 engine, good for 580 HP and 753 Nm (556 lb-ft) of torque.

And so the good news is that whichever engine will find its way into the new ZL1, it will definitely pack more of a punch than the current model.

As for the image, well, we’ve seen a whole bunch of 2016 Camaro renderings. Here you have the Convertible, the base spec model, 4-door coupe/shooting brake and of course the delightful Z/28.

It’s obvious that none of those look as good as this rendering right here of the all-new ZL1. In fact, it’s hard to say anything bad about it, regardless of how you feel about the new Camaro.

And from an accuracy point of view, we think this should be pretty much what we’re going to get once the real thing rolls off the assembly line. Sorry, once the real thing gets leaked on the Internet before any official unveiling.
