The original DS from 1955 was such an important milestone for Citroen that the French carmaker launched a new premium sub-brand named after it.
Too bad Citroen never really managed to successfully replicate the recipe of the DS that remained in production for 20 years and is considered today as one of the most influential and beautiful cars of the 20th century.
Who knows what the future holds, but for now, on the occasion of the DS’ 60th anniversary, the DS marque will push out a series of “1955” limited editions across its range, including the DS3 hatch, DS3 Cabrio, DS4 and DS5, which will be presented during the “DS Week” in Paris from May 19 to 24, 2015.
DS CEO Yves Bonnefont, said; “To build today’s DS brand we draw inspiration from the exceptional heritage of this legendary car, and take up the values it conveyed, of innovation, excellence and avant-garde design. Specifically, today’s DS models excel in refinement, quality materials, and outstanding style, technology, comfort and performance.”
The new DS ‘1955’ Editions will be available at UK dealers towards the end of June, with prices and details to be announced.
