We enjoy watching cars that, performance-wise, are basically mirror images of each other, go head to head. Sure, there are a few differences but these two, at least for a while, were direct rivals.

As you know, the Ferrari 458 is gone and in its place is the faster and more attractive 488 GTB. However, the 458 Italia was never an obsolete car. Its naturally aspirated V8 engine was always good for 570 HP which meant that it could go from a stand still to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds.

The Lamborghini Huracan is packing a massive V10 engine, good for 610 HP and 560 Nm (412 lb-ft) of torque. It will get to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds and hit 325 km/h (202 mph) compared to the 458’s 323 km/h (201 mph).

So yes, two cars that are very evenly matched. Sure, one is RWD and one is AWD but other than that, they were born to fight each other on the street, on the strip and on the track.

As you’re watching the video, try to ignore the Ferrari jumping on the red light and taking off before the Huracan’s more sluggish start. These were timed runs and all that mattered were the numbers.

The Ferrari 458 did it in 11.59 seconds while the Huracan did a 11.22 run. It was also faster by about 2 mph which sounds about right.

If we can put all this aside (and it’s not like the data is so complex that we need to take a moment to process it), we’ll probably arrive at the same conclusion as many Lamborghini or Ferrari owners arrive to.

You’re buying the 458 or the Huracan based on whichever you think looks better and/or whichever brand you happen to like more. Otherwise, we’d call it a draw – despite the Lambo being ever so slightly quicker.
