Volvo has announced that the first model to get the new Polestar Performance Optimization is the limited edition V40 Carbon.
Polestar engineers have worked on improving the V40’s drivability and driving control, using the latest Drive-E powertrain family from Volvo. As a result, the V40 Carbon is said to provide “faster and more exact responses to commands.”
Engineers have focused on five important performance areas of the drivetrain: throttle response, gearshift speed, gearshift precision and hold, off-throttle response and engine performance.
The Volvo V40 Carbon edition will be built in a limited run of 343 units, available in Finland, France, Japan, the Netherlands and Sweden. Engine options will include the T5 and D4 petrol and diesel engines. With the Polestar optimization, the T5 develops 253hp and 400Nm (295lb-ft) of torque, while the D4 is rated at 200hp and 440Nm (324lb-ft) of torque.
The increase in power and torque (25hp and 50Nm for the T5 and 16hp and 40Nm for the D4) focuses on mid-range performance – that’s 2,000 to 4,500 rpm for the petrol and 1,500 to 3,500 rpm for the diesel.
Besides the performance upgrade, the Volvo V40 Carbon features exclusive carbon details, unique 19-inch wheels, red seat belts and an extensive equipment package.
The first optimizations for other Volvo models with the new Drive-E engines will be released in late June 2015, starting with the T6, T5, D5 and D4 engines.
