When was the last time you saw a new car with just three lug nuts? That should tell you a lot about Renault’s new affordable city car codenamed XBA.
While it was designed primarily for India and Brazil where it will also be built, the XBA that is believed to be named Kayou in these markets, was scooped in prototype form testing in Europe sparking rumors about a possible Dacia-badged iteration.
The Renault model is expected to be introduced in India before the end of May, offering a small 0.8-liter three-cylinder engine paired to either manual or semi-automatic transmissions that drive the front wheels. It is built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s new CMF-A modular platform for low-cost small vehicles.
If green-lighted for production, the Dacia model will likely follow after about a year.
