No one expects from a convertible model to be practical and to offer space for rear passengers, especially when we’re talking about a compact drop top like the BMW 2-Series. What people want though is driving dynamics as close as possible to the coupe version, and in this respect BMW has done a pretty good job with the 2-Series Convertible.
Carbuyer’s Ginny Buckley took it for a drive and describes it as a joy behind the wheel and a really fun car to drive. She recommends the 220d diesel version over the 220i petrol as the diesel is more responsive and more fuel-efficient. However, if money was not an issue, the BMW M235i Convertible would definitely be the one to have.
Obviously, there are some downsides in terms of practicality compared to the coupe – the boot is smaller and rear passengers must be really small to fit. But the 2-Series Convertible does its main job brilliantly and that’s all that matters.
