While Tesla may offer fast charging stations all across western Europe thus facilitating long distance travel, when you have an EV from a different manufacturer, reaching your destination is more of a gamble.

Mat Watson of AutoExpress tried completing the journey from the UK into mainland Europe to gauge the difference in charging infrastructure. However, due to a faulty pay card he didn’t really complete his journey on electric power, using the optional range extender that his BMW i3 came with.

He ended up running mostly on gasoline power through Europe and the overall impression was very different to the one left by the Tesla Oslo to London trip.

Obviously, had the card worked for the chargers it would have been much simpler, but as it so happened this time they didn’t. Check out Watson’s i3 trip in the video posted below.
