Considering how things are going right now in Formula 1, we don’t quite know what the future holds, but Nathan Dearsley seems to have an awesome idea.
The Red Bull X1 was probably one of the coolest futuristic-Formula 1 concepts ever created, until this came along…
Sure, the Red Bull prototype hypothetically works in real life, even if it doesn’t actually exists and it was developed specifically for the Gran Turismo videogame franchise, but Nathan’s design concept doesn’t take itself too serious and that makes it fun. Very fun.
The designer constructed a whole backstory for the car and imagines it as a return to the roots for McLaren, which in the year 2056 tries to recreate the dominance it possessed with the Senna-Prost couple.
Carrying the legendary Honda-Marlboro livery, the car is named the MP6/P and according to its maker, its development began in the 90’s and the early prototypes were tested by human drivers. Nice imagination, Nathan, but Bernie Eccelstone won’t let robots race in the future – yes, he will still control everything even then.
Nathan continues to specify that the MP6/P’s design has a “primitive” approach in order to provide a drafting, non-turbulent air flow at the back, to aid overtaking maneuvers. Of course, every advantage comes with a disadvantage and the car becomes unpredictable while overtaking under braking.
The powertrain boasts a hybrid drive for the front wheels and a combustion engine dedicated to the rear wheels.
Awesome stuff. We hope it has a V12.
