It was only a matter of time for the first reports to surface regarding Luc Donckerwolke’s next move after suddenly quitting from his position as Chief Designer of Bentley.
According the latest reports, Donckerwolke has accepted Hyundai’s offer to succeed Peter Schreyer as Head of Design for both Hyundai and Kia, who still has two years remaining on his contract.
Peter Schreyer will retire after his contract expires and Hyundai wanted to bring Donckerwolke early to give him time to adjust into the company.
Luc Donckerwolke was considered the best candidate for replacing Walter de Silva as the Chief Designer in VW Group but apparently Hyundai’s offer was too good for him to pass. During his long career with the VW Group, Luc Donckerwolke’s pen was responsible for cars like the Lamborghini Murcielago, the Lamborghini Gallardo, the Audi R8 LeMans racer, the upcoming Bentley Bentayga SUV and the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept.
Hyundai has declined to comment on these reports but as AutoNews’ sources confirm that the Korean company has struck a deal with the Belgian designer.
