Lotus has confirmed that they will launch a fully compliant Evora model in the US market towards the end of the year.

The British firm skipped the MY2015 as the Evora did not meet the US safety regulations that demanded ‘smart’ airbags which detect whether a passenger wears his seat belt or not. Officials have granted an exemption for small manufacturers, an exemption that expired after the 2014 model year.

All the Evoras sold this year are MY2014 models with Lotus telling AutoNews that their new Evora 400 will be fully compliant with US regulations when it goes on sale as a MY2017. The new Evora 400 is lighter by its predecessor by 22kg and is powered by a revised version of the supercharged 3.5-litre V6 engine, now producing 400hp.

Lotus has been in the news for its recently revealed 3-Eleven track-focused model as well as for its plans to build its first crossover in order to rival the likes of Porsche Macan and Mercedes GLC.

Prices for the new Lotus will start at $89,900 excluding local sales taxes.
