These are (probably) the last scoop shots you’ll see of the regular Mercedes-Benz GLC before the Germans reveal their GLK-replacing SUV this Wednesday, June 17.
We say “regular” because Mercedes is also believed to have plans for both a GLC 450 AMG Sport with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 producing around 370-horses and possibly, a full-blown GLC 63 AMG sporting C63 AMG’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with about 450hp.
The one caught by our spy shooters here is a non-AMG model with only minimal camouflage covering sections of the bumpers, lights, and grille, thus giving us our best look at the production car yet.
A successor to the current GLK, Merc’s Audi Q5 and BMW X3-rivaling SUV adopts a new platform shared with the C-Class, with the two models also having a common range of engines that will include 2.0-liter four-cylinder and 3.0-liter V6 gasoline mills, 2.1-liter turbo diesels and even a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
For the first time, Mercedes’ compact executive SUV will be produced in both left- and right-hand drive. Sales will kick off in Europe later this year, with other regions to follow shortly after.
