Porsche is prepping a new GT version of the 911 which is going to offer a purer approach to the performance car market.
According to Autocar, the new model will be totally different from the track-biased RS versions as Porsche will focus on offering maximum feel and driver interaction without being engineered specifically for circuit-driving.
This new and pure 911 is expected to use the narrow body from the base models instead of the wider ones used by the GT3 and the GT3 RS and will feature a manual gearbox. There will be no trick aero bits on it too, as Porsche wants to offer a friendly setup with easily accessible and enjoyable limits. For that purpose the new GT model will likely use narrower tires with less grip than the ones used on the aforementioned models.
Engine-wise, Porsche will probably use the same naturally aspirated 3.8-litre flat-six of the GT3, leaving the upcoming turbocharged engines for the all the non-GT models. There is no info on the exact name Porsche will use for this one, but we already know that the company has trademarked recently the GT5 moniker.
This new version is expected to debut next year, after the official launch of the 911 facelift family which will introduce us to the new, turbocharged era of the base models.
