Considering the fact that Mercedes’ all-new compact SUV isn’t the sportiest thing in the world, we wouldn’t mind seeing this GLC 63 AMG rendition come to life.

Wearing AMG duds is never a bad idea, but it’s one thing to dress up in the AMG Sport pack and something else entirely to be wearing the Mercedes-AMG name.

I’d also like to take back what I said about the GLC not looking as aggressive as the BMW X3, because in this particular context, it’s pretty darn good-looking! The image shows us a car that sits much lower to the ground and has a front spoiler resembling the one on the C63.

You might think that building the GLC 63 would be a no-brainer, and it should! But by doing so, Mercedes would sort of be the first ones to the plate and that’s not something that they generally enjoy when it comes to fast cars.

When I said first, I did exclude the Porsche Macan Turbo, which comes with a 400 PS engine and can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds. But let’s use that as a benchmark, since neither BMW or Audi (currently) have super-fast (petrol-powered) versions of their compact SUVs.

So let us speculate and think about possible power units for the GLC 63 AMG. Right off the bat we have the C63 and the C63 S with their 476 PS and 510 PS engines. However, that does kind of sound like “overkill” for a car such as the GLC.

It would only need about 400 PS or a little over that, in order to hit 100 km/h in under 5 seconds, right? Plus would Mercedes really want the GLC AMG to get so close to the GLE AMG in terms of performance?

Well, maybe they would, or maybe they would build it as a GLC 45 AMG, except that with more than just 360 PS. That would seem like a more sensible choice, unless Merc wants to go “all in” and force everybody in the premium compact SUV segment to start pumping a lot more HP into their cars.
