Adding an electric blower to an engine has recently been proven to have significant benefits for boosting an engine’s power output. Many manufacturers have already show prototypes of the technology, and according to a report by AutoExpress, AMG is jumping on that train too.

The UK publication obtained the information from Steffen Jastrow who reportedly said the solution is seen as a way to cut costs but maintain high-levels of performance.

He’s quoted as having said “Of course we need more power for the next-generation of cars, but electrification does not mean we have to use an electric drivetrain. They have to be faster and e-turbos are an option. We use them in motorsport, but the technology has to be payable [affordable] for the customer.”

Expect to see this tech debut in the next A-Class, an all new one that’s due after this facelift, in 2017.
