Regardless of where you live, odds are that when behind the wheel, you’ll appreciate a truck that shows you the road ahead, so that you’d know when to overtake and when to stay put.
People do tend to take stupids risks when they’re behind the wheel. There are so many things that can go wrong when you’re overtaking a big rig and the road has poor visibility or it’s pitch black (like so many country roads we know).
So what’s the deal with the Samsung “Safety Truck”? Well, it works by using a wireless camera located at the front, which then displays an image at the back of the truck. Pretty simple, right?
It’s so simple, it’s almost laughable that nobody thought to implement this somewhere in the world. And by that we mean to think of ways in which it would make sense financially. The obviously big selling point is that this technology should definitely diminish the risks of a frontal collision.
The system also works during the night thanks to a night vision sensor, which would come in handy whenever you find yourself driving on a country road with absolutely no artificial illumination in sight.
However, it’s conceivable that autonomous driving will make this type of tech obsolete – since that’s where we’re headed already. Why invest in “see through” trucks when our cars are going to be our eyes and ears in the very near future?
Food for thought.
