Sleepers are probably one of the best form of motoring and what a better sleeper than a mid-engine, supercharged 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1!
They usually take you by surprise, when you least expect it and if that’s not one the coolest form of vanity, I don’t know what is. But no matter how you put it, you can’t classify iconic, classic Mustangs as sleepers. In fact, they’re the exact opposite: striking to look at and slow.
Take for instance a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 with its attention grabbing attitude, colors and options. Even the base 1970 Mach 1 stallion came in with a striking paint-scheme and with a 250 HP, 5.8-liter, Cleveland V8.
Maybe that engine was…“adequate” 45-years ago, but compared to modern cars and standards, it just makes the muscle-flexing Mustang look ridiculous. Everything South from a 428 can’t put its money where its mouth is.
So, how can you improve a Mustang, powertrain-wise, to perform as good as it looks? Make a Ford GT out of it, of course. No, not a Mustang GT; a Ford GT (by the way, remember this 2007 Mustang with the mechanicals of a Lamborghini Gallardo?)
Redditor MonsterCarlo photographed this amazing looking mid-engine Mustang, carrying a 5.4-litre supercharged Ford engine. It’s unlikely that the car is a re-bodied GT, since that will be outrageously impossible, but a custom chassis and frame could house such a setup.
The roll ball in the engine bay is a testimony of the beast’s power and I doubt it has carbon fiber parts, since the bar is welded to the body, but the overall look is outstanding.
Under the hood, where the engine used to sit, a fuel tank is now present. I can’t imagine its weight distribution being uniformly spread throughout the chassis, but still; it’s an impressive build. Could the nameplates suggest the owner topping it at 200 Mph (321 Km/h)?
If you can identify other foreign parts throughout the car, like the SN95 Mk4 Mustang dashboard – which doesn’t really appeal – feel free to give us a head up.
