Don’t let the modified Yeti body fool you; this is a test mule for Skoda’s first mid-size SUV that will arrive next year positioned against the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe.
While Skoda’s designers work on real-life clay and digital models, the Czech firm’s engineers are out in the field evaluating the as-of-yet unnamed SUV’s platform and mechanical components hidden under the botched body of a stretched Yeti.
The Skoda model will share its VW Group MQB architecture (and possibly footprint) with the VW brand’s upcoming Crossblue SUV.
The engine range should be similar to what we find in the Skoda Octavia, including 1.4-, 1.8- and 2.0-liter turbocharged petrols, and 1.6- and 2.0-liter diesels paired to both manual and dual clutch-transmissions driving either the front or all-four wheels. It remains unknown if Skoda will give the SUV a hybrid option.
It will measure around 4.6 to 4.7 meters in length and offer a choice of five or seven seats with a practical interior.
