TVR released a statement today announcing that it’s working together with legendary designer Gordon Murray and Cosworth on an all-new sports car.
The new model is part of a product and launch program that will apparently see at least four new models brought to market over the next ten years. TVR says it has been working with Gordon Murray Design and Cosworth on the project for over a year now, with production scheduled to begin in 2017.
However, TVR will release specification details and early images later this year. All we now so far is the new model will be a two-seat sports car with a composite ground effect aero chassis and body package using Gordon Murray Design’s innovative iStream technology.
It will have TVR’s traditional layout consisting of a front engine with rear-wheel drive and a manual transmission, with the powerplant being a naturally aspirated, dry-sumped V8 developed and engineered by Cosworth.
When the car begins production in 2017, it will be offered “at a competitive price point within its segment and consistent with TVR’s positioning in the past.” The new model will be completely produced in a new UK factory.
“Gordon Murray Design and Cosworth are the perfect partners for TVR and together, we will deliver a truly exceptional new car,” said Les Edgar, Chairman of TVR. “TVR is an iconic brand which has been an important part of British sports car manufacturing for many decades. Its return to manufacturing is an exciting development and the car deserves the best chassis and powertrain that can possibly be delivered,” said Gordon Murray.
